Interview with Lobsang

Shanti Stupa Leh, Ladakh India.

Shanit Stupa is perched on a hill and was built to promote 2500 years of Buddhism. At 4267 Feet above sea level my lungs were feeling it as my legs tried to carry my body up the steep 500 steps to the top. The view is superb and is most amazing in its ability to look rather small until you arrive at the top. I walked around a few times and spent some time in the meditation hall watching locals give thanks, prostrating and praying. Leaving I was greeted by a very sweet guy named Lobsang. Offering me a place to sit, some warm tea and home made savoury biscuits I tried to find out what he was doing here and if I could possibly find out more and Buddhism in general.

What is the Shanti Stupa?

The stupa is very important; it has the teachings and books here. The stupa is not empty it is full of knowledge.

What is this knowledge?

Its easy the knowledge of Buddha it is simple – To be Happy this is the essence.

What is your role here?

I am a caretaker I have been here for five years but I am been a monk since 9 years I am now 50 (pointing to a picture of a young Buddhist on the wall and laughing)

What are the benefits to humanity if they find solace in Buddha?

To be nice to improve but you must take refuge in the teachings of Buddha these are for everyone – This is True.

Can you become happy without this practice?

This is not a religion it’s a way of understanding our minds and our true state or essence. Happiness is to come out of the ignorance and into knowledge. Alleviating sickness and suffering is the key to Buddha’s teachings. I am not outside of this I too suffer also – its Life (Laughs). Attachment is everywhere here in Ladakh, the technology is bringing many unhappiness. The westerners are seen as being happy but westerners think Ladahkians are happy but humans everywhere are like this. If you don’t want suffering you must come out of ignorance this is the proof. The Buddha gave it one name – The 3 poisons. Anger, Ignorance and Attachment.

What is the practice to come out of this?

You must identify these 3 poisons and be aware of this in everyday life. No-one can give you peace just you, this suffering that is too educate yourself and know these in everyday life.

At this point he asks me how is the enemy coming? Anger ill will, this effect on the mind makes you reflect this in your life and starts to impair your judgement – This is True.

What is the 1st steps to helping us come out of this?

The 4 nobles truths.

Noble Truth of Suffering.

Noble Truth of the Cause of Suffering – Attachment

Noble Truth of the End of Suffering – Identifying the causes of Suffering.

Noble Truth of the Middle Path or the Nobel Eight fold Path

This path leads to the end of all suffering, If we avoid harming all other living beings, if we sharpen and focus our mind, and if we gain wisdom; each of us can reach perfect happiness, the end of all misery – This is True

What is a good mantra for this? Can this assist this?

NO! The 1st step is compassion this is the mantra. Everything will start to come into a better state with this. Happiness will come, you will relax and sleep well and feel peace. Mantra can be used for Compassion but if you are not identifying the 3 poisons and try to move away from them Mantra will not work. A clear mind is the end result better thoughts, better way of life. You must have a clean mind to be able to understand knowledge properly at school this is the way.

So we must just be alike Buddha?  Yes you are Buddha – This is True.

What else do we have to be aware of?

Jealousy will be something that will affect you also but this ties into non-attachment.

What about Meditation?

Find one that is good for you Vipassana is good but if you are not being a good person meditation is no good – This is True. It starts with your compassion and to live simply and content. Meditation calms the mind and this only helps so much.

At this point he revealed that he has a strong practice but was not educated properly and felt that I should find a scholar. As I sat there and drank the High noon tea he sounded more and more humble and simply wanted to exist outside of the realms of the lower forms of being. Being up there was a real blessing and to talk to someone who didn’t reveal things he didn’t know fully and have any Ego with regards to preaching etc was an amazing feeling.

As I started to see a storm build in the distance and started to leave  Lobsang started revealing that people just keep looking and seeking and when they are in these amazing places they somewhat miss the point, as these temples exist in a place in all our hearts. Sadly he did relay his ideas on Tibet and destruction of many sacred texts and temples. Suffering is Suffering -This is True.

Lobsang said goodbye by asking me who I was and why do I identify with the body “People are nothing these bodies are just vessels we have no need to be religious we just need to be happy and compassionate. Buddhism is a practice to reveal the real you, this which that is within you but you don’t know – This is true.

Don’t look outside for happiness Buddha he is not in a church. If Buddha was a question mark the Answer is compassion. For you to be born is out of compassion, our mothers have to be compassionate to allow us to experience this life – We must try to share this. Buddha said we ‘must become alike mum’. Let go of this Ego you are not Daniel your nothing just feel this and be the best you can be.

Heading back down the steps towards Leh Town I felt emotions that brought up things I forgot about and knew I was on the right track. In the next few hours I tracked down a Tibetan Oracle and the rest is history.

If you come here say Hi. For me in my experience, I feel that Leh is really Leh in the winter as its just the locals. The tourists and merchants only come in tourist season (spring- summer) and Leh gets to breath and rest.

Homemade Ayurvedic Jams or Prash

In Ayurveda there are an array of herbs that are the staple of the healing approach. Personally I’ve found it’s hard to incorporate the intake of these herbs daily, especially if you live a fast tracked life or have limited access to these Herbs all the time.

To make a concoction that you can take on a daily basis or you can take with you in one form is most helpful.

Cooking them together not only helps with assimilation and digestion it also strengthens their potency and somewhat marries them together.

Below is a non classic recipe for a formula called Chyawanprash, the consistency is much alike jam and tastes fantastic.

Mantra for Herb Preparation –

(Pronounced  -Om Aim Hreem Kling Chamoondayee Cichay)

  1. 1L of Amla or Indian Gooseberry Juice and/or 1 cup of Blueberries or Amla berries
  2. 1 cup Jaggery or Gurr
  3. 1 cup Coconut (Pitta) or sesame seed (Vata) depending on doshic make up. Omit this part if your Kaphic or have a high degree of Ama or toxins.
  4. 5 to 6 tbsp .Ghee or Clarified Butter
  5. 1 tsp of Brahmi
  6. Thumb of Fresh Ginger
Spice Mixture to be ground
  1. 6-8 Green Cardamom or Elaichi

Vibration is creation

A theory of creation, maybe possibly kinda; well sorta.

Just because we cannot see the wind, this does not mean it is not there
–  Ken Wilber

Its divine by design, and so are you and I.

Ayurvedic texts convey that the ‘source’ was pure consciousness or ‘Prakruti’ which had the will to manifest himself through the vibrational intention of primordial sound, mantra and language. The fundamental law of vibration, states that everything in the universe is in a flux of vibration or resonance. Everything is existence whether it is solid, liquid or gas is made up of light and energy, which are constantly moving and vibrating. This synergy between ‘intent or will’ and vibration is the bridge between ‘Matter’ and Spirit.” Prakruti is associated with the first two chakra’s that are not on this ‘earth,’ though are antecedents of the five elements, five senses and five chakras.

Aum is the one eternal primordial syllable of which all that exists and has ever existed – Mandukya Upanishad

The characteristics associated with the divine mind are related to the 7th chakra (crown), which are bliss, grace, beauty, serenity and universal oneness.

Vowel – ‘Eee’
Mantra ‘Aum’

‘Prakruti had the desire to create, this is seen as a product of the sixth chakra (third eye), characterized by imagination, creation, intuition, rational thought, union of the left and right hemispheres.

Vowel ‘Aye’
Mantra ‘Aum’

From the intention of divine creation, stemming from the top two chakras followed a vibrational energy, thus creating aspects of the physical world. With Each vibration aligning itself with our chakras, senses, and elements and also with a specific ‘Primordial sound/Mantra/Vibration’.

5th chakra (Throat)
Element- Ether/Space, (The ‘Vibration/Words’ of desire which through movement of space created ‘Air’)

Vowel ‘Eye’
Mantra “HAM”

Sense – Hearing – Communication, Physical expression of creativity)
We need our ears to enable speech (vibration), if there is any blockage in the ears or fluid build up, this can inhibit the speech function. Thus the reason deaf people have the inability to speak fluently as the equilibrium is distorted in the ear.

4th chakra (Heart)
Element- Air (The birth of Oxygen, movement and friction)

Vowel – Ah
Mantra –  “YAM”

Sense- touch, compassion and unity)
The loving touch or hug can be given as an indication of support, comfort, and consolation, particularly where ‘words’ are insufficient. A hug is usually a demonstration of affection and emotional warmth; this show of affection can bring someone into our space and make them feel a ‘human’ connection and belonging.

3rd chakra (Solar plexus)
Element- Fire (From the movement and friction of air this created ‘fire’. As this heated the air then condensed, it turned into water)
Vowel – Oh
Mantra – “RAM”

Sense- Sight (Personal power and will)
This gave us the ability to see and perceive light and dark.

2nd chakra (Navel)
Element- Water (This would of given life to biology.
Binding with the warmth from the previous element this brought life and governs the kinds of organisms that can live in rivers and lakes.
(Fish, insects, zooplankton, phytoplankton, and other aquatic species).

Vowel – OOO
Mantra – “VAM”-

Sense- Taste, (personal power and will)
We quite literally had a ‘taste’ for life and started to see our role in the physical world

1st chakra (Root)
Element- Earth

Vowel – Uh
Mantra – “LAM”
Sense- Smell (Tribal/family, vitality)

The final stage gave us the ability to procreate and brings it all together, this last stage would have governed the ability to smell pheromones and food.
The Highest sense we have is the sense of smell; aromatherapy uses plants, which embody the highest frequency (link to Ayurveda our savior) with relation to being closet to the source or ‘light’ with the highest potential of the plants world ‘pollen’.
This chakra is also the seat of ‘Kundalini’, which rises from the earth and up to the heavens.

Words are quite absurd.

In the beginning was the word, this was all that could be heard across the universe -Siddha Somanomah (link to whoissiddhasomanomah.blog.com)

These aspects formulate the basis of creation through energetic resonance. We as a species manifest our intentions or thoughts; through the vehicle of speech. Our words have the ability to bring these ‘thought patterns’ into this world from nowhere, this may possibly be the most powerful apparatus humankind has to offer. Words are tools and have the power to create or destroy, enlighten or harm and of course they have the power to heal.
For instance, within our language of words are vowels and consonants. Vowels (eee- aye-eye-ah-oh-ooo -uh) bring harmony into the body by removing dissonance. While consonants localize energy in a specific area (t- h- s- f -v -sh- ch- th).  For example ‘E’ being the Primordial sound of the 7th crown chakra can be found in a simple sentence like- be, dream, breath; perceive, achieve peace; release, repeat. Being mindful of our words is the key to creating harmony or afflicting dissonance.

During gestation we too learn words from the universe.

With respect to us as species we create and shape with words, art and of course ‘conception’. Our very first life experience is through sound. In utero we are adrift in our mothers Inner Ocean or amniotic fluid- weightless. We have no sense of smell of taste as this fluid eliminates these. We have our eyes closed floating in the dark -unable to perceive light. Week sixteen our ears fully develop, as we are have water against the eardrum but sound travels five time quicker through water making our hearing amplified. The orchestration of sound patterns we perceive during this time will be deeply imbedded into our sub- consciousness mind for the rest of our lives. This is our first experience of ‘Primordial sounds’. As with respect too the unfolding creation through the seven stages each one has one of these ‘Primordial sounds’, using these while pregnant can help to remove any dissonance from the physical, spiritual and psychological growth of our infants.
By eliminating dissonance from our energy field and raising harmonic balance we can bring a new level of creation into our initial level of molecular generation. These can be utilized during pregnancy or with a daily practice.
The technique for using primordial sounds is really quite simple. Just experiment with them all for a few days (eye,ah,oh, ooo,uh). One will feel better than the others so please take a sound that feels good for you and apply the following steps.
Step 1) Once you have acquired your personal sound -find a place you feel warmth and love to move into your own sacred space.
Step 2) Now you can use the chosen vowel too heal yourself with visualization, intention and mindful manifestation. For instance if you have a liver issue, all you need to do is attach the emotion of healing to this sound. Now just simply by using intention, attach the feeling of healing while saying (aloud or in your mind) the chosen vowel.
step 3) Now visualize this sound with healing intent and send it to your liver.

Heal yourself it helps.
